Written on 8:08 AM by Annush

Between the N97’s and the iPhone 3GS’ you’d be forgiven for thinking there aren’t any major new phone releases due within the next week but you’d be wrong, very wrong. Why? Because the Nokia N86 8MP, Nokia’s first entrant into the realms of the 8.0 Megapixel camera phone, is due to launch on Friday the 26th of June and, more importantly, is now available to pre-order. In the midst of the aforementioned touchscreen heavy weights, you may have forgotten what makes the Nokia N86 so special so, if that’s the case, read on and let us refresh your memory and remind you why you should be excited about the Nokia N86.

ince the first 8.0 Megapixel camera phone launched almost a year ago, the most noticeable absentee has been Nokia. So, when Nokia finally got round to announcing an 8.0 Megapixel cameraphone, you know it’s going to be a bit of a big deal. But not content with releasing an ‘also ran’, Nokia set their sights on making the best 8.0 Megapixel camera phone available on the market. And so we get variable aperture levels; letting you alter the amount of light that the lens lets in, a powerful Dual-LED flash, a 28mm wide angle lens which helps you get even more into each photo, a great panoramic feature that lets you take multiple photos and then stitches them together into one image and finally a Carl Zeiss lens, as was expected in a camera phone of this caliber.

Of course the N86 8MP isn’t just about the camera. Featuring the excellent dual slide design found on the N85 and N96, the N86 is perfect for mobile gaming and is fully compatible with the Ngage gaming platform with games available through the Ovi store. As a Symbian handset, the fun doesn’t stop with games as you can download and install a range of different applications, not to mention customise your phone to suit your needs. HSDPA and Wi-Fi connectivity compliment the excellent pre-installed web browser and GPS not only lets you Geo-tag photos but also serves up a range of location based services and navigation tools.

And finally, rounding off the package is an excellent multimedia player, supporting a variety of video and audio file formats and an improved kickstand that transforms the N86 into an excellent portable movie player. Available to pre-order now with stock already in and waiting for the 26th of June launch date.
