Coming Soon, The Sony Ericsson Aino!

Written on 8:14 AM by Annush

Sony Ericsson recently announced the launch of three brand spankingly new handsets. Each one with its own functionality and purpose. The Aino; 8.1 megapixel camera and remote access to your PS3! The Satio; 12.1 megapixels of camera magic and last but by no means least the Yari, the “gaming-centric” handset with motion controls.

Today however I’m just going to fill you in on the Sony Ericsson Aino. The Aino features both a 3-inch touchscreen and a slide-out keypad giving you the best of both worlds through either its keypad or its intuitive touch UI in media mode. With a focus on multimedia capabilities, the Aino lets you connect with your PS3 remotely! Remote Play with Playstation 3, initially developed for PSP, enables users to control and access media content on Playstation 3 from their phone. This can be done via a local network between Playstation 3 and Aino in your home or via the internet from anywhere in the world. For TV lovers in Italy, France, Spain, Germany and the UK you can also enjoy the PlayTV™ service on Playstation 3 via the Aino. Watch, pause and record live TV from a huge range of free channels via Aino on the go.

As well as TV you can also watch movies on a crystal clear 3 inch screen and listen to music in superb quality and with increased freedom - thanks to the stylish Wireless Stereo Headphone MH100 and matching Charging Stand EC100 designed to match the Aino’s stylish looks. The Aino also boasts an 8.1-megapixel camera which is quite impressive considering it isn’t on its list of top priorities.

The Aino also introduces Media Home, an application that pulls media content from Media Go™ on your PC over Wi-Fi™ to your phone automatically. Users just insert their Aino into its charging stand and it automatically synchronizes with all the latest media content on their PC so you are always ready to go with the latest content on your phone. Sony Ericsson would like to remind us that “No more wires, no more searching – always the latest fun”.

Overall the Sony Ericsson Aino looks set to be a good addition to the already busy summer though the question that springs to mind is, do the existence of the Aino and the Yari finally put those PSP phone rumours to bed? With Sony recently unveiling the new PSP Go at this years E3 it certainly seems that way. This will come as disappointing news to some as the much rumoured PSP phone had always seemed like the perfect marriage of one of Sony’s top brands. Having worked so well with the Cyber-shot and Walkman phones, it certainly would have been interesting to see what could have come from Sony Ericsson.

Still, with an excellent camera and more than enough going for it in the media department. Pencilled in for a Q4 launch id say we could expect to see it on the shelves around October.

Nokia N86 8MP

Written on 8:08 AM by Annush

Between the N97’s and the iPhone 3GS’ you’d be forgiven for thinking there aren’t any major new phone releases due within the next week but you’d be wrong, very wrong. Why? Because the Nokia N86 8MP, Nokia’s first entrant into the realms of the 8.0 Megapixel camera phone, is due to launch on Friday the 26th of June and, more importantly, is now available to pre-order. In the midst of the aforementioned touchscreen heavy weights, you may have forgotten what makes the Nokia N86 so special so, if that’s the case, read on and let us refresh your memory and remind you why you should be excited about the Nokia N86.

ince the first 8.0 Megapixel camera phone launched almost a year ago, the most noticeable absentee has been Nokia. So, when Nokia finally got round to announcing an 8.0 Megapixel cameraphone, you know it’s going to be a bit of a big deal. But not content with releasing an ‘also ran’, Nokia set their sights on making the best 8.0 Megapixel camera phone available on the market. And so we get variable aperture levels; letting you alter the amount of light that the lens lets in, a powerful Dual-LED flash, a 28mm wide angle lens which helps you get even more into each photo, a great panoramic feature that lets you take multiple photos and then stitches them together into one image and finally a Carl Zeiss lens, as was expected in a camera phone of this caliber.

Of course the N86 8MP isn’t just about the camera. Featuring the excellent dual slide design found on the N85 and N96, the N86 is perfect for mobile gaming and is fully compatible with the Ngage gaming platform with games available through the Ovi store. As a Symbian handset, the fun doesn’t stop with games as you can download and install a range of different applications, not to mention customise your phone to suit your needs. HSDPA and Wi-Fi connectivity compliment the excellent pre-installed web browser and GPS not only lets you Geo-tag photos but also serves up a range of location based services and navigation tools.

And finally, rounding off the package is an excellent multimedia player, supporting a variety of video and audio file formats and an improved kickstand that transforms the N86 into an excellent portable movie player. Available to pre-order now with stock already in and waiting for the 26th of June launch date.

The Nokia 6303 Classic

Written on 8:04 AM by Annush

The Nokia 6303 is the newest mid-level candybar in Nokia’s ‘Classic’ range. Running on Nokia’s S40 6th edition operating system, the 6303 Classic is a tri-band handset featuring a large 2.2″ screen and Nokia Maps for GPS navigation.

Whilst in the wake of the recent 8.0 Megapixel wave including the excellent Samsung Tocco Ultra and the new Sony Ericsson W995, you may be wondering why there is so much hype around Nokia’s latest gem. Well, simply because it is the successor to the massively popular Nokia 6300. The 6303 definitely has some big shoes to fill as people including myself loved the no frills direction of the 6300, with excellent build quality and unwavering reliability.

So what are the main differences?? For a start the camera gets a boost from 2 to 3.2 Megapixels and is complimented by autofocus and an LED flash whilst the dimensions remain largely unchanged (the 6303 is slightly wider and a few grams heavier than its predecessor). Stylistically, the 6303 shares much in common with the 6300 with both taking a candybar form factor and comprised of a blend of high quality plastics and metals. The 6303 Classic is slightly more rounded and does benefit from a more user friendly keypad thanks to better spacing between the keys.

Elsewhere, its more a case of evolution over revolution; video capture, a built in MP3 player, 70MB of internal memory and a memory card slot all make the cut. While this may not appease the tech hungry keen for the next 8.0 Megapixel-Wi-Fi-HSDPA-wonder phone, the 6303 is the natural progression for those who fell for the 6300’s considerable charm. What’s more, those of you still sporting the two and a half year old 6300 are probably in need of an upgrade!

The 6303 is available on O2, Orange and T-Mobile with a range of fantastic offers. We have it in both the standard Silver and the exclusive Black variant. Click here to check out the latest deals, order now and get your Nokia 6303 classic tomorrow!

Apple iPhone 3G officially the phone of the year!

Written on 8:02 AM by Annush

No not according to us, though readers of the Blog will know we’re massive iPhone fans. Mobile Today have announced the big winners at this years Mobile Industry Awards and the top gong for best phone has gone to Apple’s touchscreen masterpiece. Whilst you don’t have to look very far to find someone singing the iPhone 3G’s praises, the Mobile Industry Award bring together the biggest names in the industry in a rigorous and challenging process, from sales directors of the six operators, to the heads of major network and high-street retailers. The Awards begin with a survey of both independent and big store retail staff to find out what they think has made the mobile industry sing.

The next stage is the insight of no fewer than five panels, populated by big names from the industry itself, as well as retail experts. Panels are drawn from the chiefs of big retailers, operator retailers and independents, right through to smaller dealerships. It’s an exhaustive process, but one that ensures the Mobile Industry Awards deliver The Industry’s Verdict on excellence. Enough about the awards process, what about the winner? The fact that the iPhone 3G has won against some stiff competition is impressive as it is but considering it has been voted for by a multitude of retailers and networks that don’t even stock the phone is the really impressive part.

But there was only ever going to be one winner really. The iPhone 3G features arguably the best touchscreen experience found on a phone coupled with a slick user interface and the all conquering App store that has revolutionised the way people think about downloadable content. Web browsing on the iPhone is also in a league of its own with the excellent pinch to zoom feature ensuring even text heavy sites are perfectly legible on the 3.5 inch screen.

So with another accolade in the bank, what’s next for Apple and the iPhone? The rumour mill is currently working over time at the moment hinting at a new iPhone which is, apparently, set to be announced on Monday. Can it equal or even surpass the success of the excellent iPhone 3G? Only time will tell. As soon as we hear anything on a new iPhone, you can read about it first on the Blog.
